NEW ALBUM
Songs that will outlast us.
Anchor Hymns began because of a simple question: What kinds of sacred songs do people of our generation need?
In the age of “content”, there is no shortage of new songs, or even good songs. There are wonderful people writing beautiful songs every day. But there does seem, to us, to be a lack of songs about Jesus that have an awareness of our particular cultural and spiritual context.
These are days where many who have grown up in the Church are quickly and quietly leaving. We have almost grown numb to the scandals, corruption and toxic leadership in our institutions. Between the political extremes and celebrity instagrams, we are finding it harder and harder to trust those in authority.
Yet we long so deeply for connection with God and with one another. We yearn to be seen, known and loved. We remember the intimacy we once felt. We read the Scripture and see that “worship” is not a genre of music but a lifestyle of laying down our rights and our lives for the good of those around us, to the glory of God.
We mourn, but we rejoice. We doubt, but we believe.
And so, early in 2022, in the basement of a small Anglican Church here in Nashville, some friends gathered to honor the songs that have bolstered our faith even when so much else around us has crumbled. We decided to study them and to join in the long tradition of setting the stories of God to music for people who need to hear them.
We prayed together, we broke bread together and we wrote songs together. We even took time away from our creative work to volunteer for a ministry in our community, and we did that together, too.
Our mission is to help people rediscover the beauty of the heart of Christ. It is our sincere hope and prayer that the songs born of this loose and evolving group of friends can be a conduit for God to bring peace, healing and restoration to you and to those around you.
Thank you for listening and partnering with us in this beautiful work. Let’s keep pushing back the dark by lifting our voices together and praising God for who He has been, is now, and ever will be.
